Mary Ellen Von Holt of Little Quilts

Mary Ellen Von Holt, of Little Quilts, has been designing kits, since 1986. She lives in Marietta, Georgia. She retired and closed the retail store, Little Quilts in December 2015, after seventeen successful years. She continues with the online store, selling the ever popular Little Quilts patterns and books. She and friends, Alice Berg and Sylvia Johnson, have written five books for Martingale & Co. They were some of the first people to design patterns and kits for small, but not miniature quilts. The best seller “Little Quilts All Through The House” was in print for more than 20 years. It is now available as a e-book  from Martingale. It’s not unusual for her to still receive letters and emails from folks who said they learned to quilt from that book or have made every quilt in it!

Mary Ellen is not new to the fabric industry. She started designing fabrics for Peter Pan Fabrics 25 years ago creating her Magic Collections I & II. Little Quilts established a new license to design fabric collections with Henry Glass & Co., Inc some years later. She has been successfully designing fabric collections now for approximately 20 years for Henry Glass & Co., Inc.

Little Quilts creates reproduction style fabric collections that highlight small prints coordinating with larger focus fabrics. Little Quilt’s strength is working with colors that are reminiscent of Civil War and the turn of the century, combining “magic fabrics” bubble gum pinks, purples and golds, with traditional reds and blues. Designing for Henry Glass Fabrics has given her the opportunity to provide vintage inspired collections with colors for today’s quilters.

Since retiring from the retail store, Mary Ellen is working on learning the skills for social networking and designing a new online Little Quilts website.

When Mary Ellen is not designing fabric, she spends time with her husband Ron, and grown children, and five grandchildren.
