Kathi started her pattern business, Heart to Hand, in 1993. She has always dabbled in different media design – sewing, tole painting, rug hooking, jewelry, pottery and even macramé. Fabric has always been her first calling. She started teaching classes at her local quilt shop, as a way to earn extra money, when her children were young. Her students always encouraged her to put her designs into patterns. After a broken finger and knee surgery ended a short career as a court reporter, Heart to Hand began. Her children are now grown up and so is Heart to Hand. Kathi lives in a rural area of Orange County, California, where she gardens, cooks, bakes, and still designs sewing patterns with a homey folk art feel.
